BP ramps up Omani gas supply

BP has ramped up gas production at Oman's onshore Block 61 from 1bn to 1.5bn ft3/day, the state-run Oman News Agency reported on June 30.

Block 61 contains the Khazzan and Ghazeer gas fields. Khazzan was brought on stream in September 2017 and now flows 1bn ft3/d, while Ghazeer was launched in October last year and has now reached its full capacity, bringing overall output at the block to 1.5bn ft3/d. BP said last year that the block would also produce over 65,000 barrels/d of condensate at its plateau rate.

BP agreed earlier this year to sell a 20% interest in Block 61 to Thailand's PTTEP for $2.6bn, but it will retain a further 40% as well as operatorship. The project's other shareholders are Oman's state-owned OQ and Malaysia's Petronas with 30% and 10% respectively.
