Bien Dong Accounts for Fifth of Vietnam's Gas Production in 2017

Bien Dong, jointly operated by Gazprom and Petrovietnam, accounted for 20.8% (or 2bn m3) of Vietnam’s overall gas production, Gazprom said September 7.

The joint project has produced 9bn m3 of gas and 2mn metric tons of condensate since it became operational in 2013. The Bien Dong project consists of Moc Tinh and Hai Thach fields in the Nam Con Son basin, offshore southern Vietnam.

Gazprom also said that company chairman Alexey Miller met with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and discussed September 7 a wide array of bilateral cooperation issues. Miller and Phu Trong discussed prospective collaboration in areas such as gas-fired power generation, gas use as a vehicle fuel, LNG supply, personnel training and sci-tech cooperation projects, Gazprom said.

A decision was made to approve a feasibility study for a pilot project aimed at constructing a Vietnam-based small-scale plant for the production of LNG to be used as a vehicle fuel. The project would be operated by a joint venture consisting Gazprom EP International, Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo and Petrovietnam Gas. The signed document paves the way for the practical implementation of the project, Gazprom stated.
