Belarus, Russian sign protocol on 2022 gas price

Belarus has signed a protocol with Russia on pricing Russian gas supplies to the former Soviet state in 2022, the government in Minsk reported on November 9.

The protocol was signed by Belarusian energy minister Viktor Karankevich and his Russian counterpart Nikolai Shulginov. "The particular level of the gas price will be set in a joint document with Gazprom, assuming the conditions of 2021," the Belarusian energy ministry said.

Karankevich earlier said that Belarus expected to pay $128.5/'000 m3 for Russian gas next year – the same price it is paying for supplies this year.

Belarus and Russia have locked horns over oil and gas prices several times in recent years, with Moscow often tying the offer of low prices to a closer political relationship with Minsk.
