Germany: RWE, EMPG Put Becklingen-Z2 into Production

50-50 partners in the Becklingen field, RWE Dea and EMPG, have successfully added to the German field with the completion and successful flow of the Becklingen-Z2 well. The Becklingen field has been in production since 1986.

The well, which was drilled to its target depth of 4,950 metres, is now producing at a rate of 10,000 cubic metres per hour. Over the course of its lifetime, the well is expected to produce one billion cubic metres of gas, RWE Dea said in a statement.

Drilling was started at the well, which will complement the existing Beckling Z1 well already at the field, and aims to reach gas deeper gas. RWE Dea says it is now able to exploit proven reserves at the bottom of the deposit, in the Havel sandstone formation.

The well was drilled by ITAG Tiefbohr GmbH in Celle's Rig 23.

"We’re very pleased with the result,” said Management Board member responsible for Operations at RWE Dea, Dirk Warzecha. "With this well, we hit our target at a depth of 4,950 metres with great precision."
