B.Grimm Wins Thai LNG Import Licence

B.Grimm LNG, a unit of Bangkok-listed private firm B.Grimm Power, has secured a licence to import LNG into Thailand, it said on May 27 in a statement.

Thailand’s Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has allowed the company to import LNG to the amount of 650,000 metric tons/year. B.Grimm LNG will supply the LNG to fuel B.Grimm Power's power plants. “The use of LNG is expected to support the fuel cost management for electricity generation,” the company said.

Thailand has been liberalising its gas market and has in recent years allowed private firms to directly import LNG. Last week, Thai independent power producer Gulf Energy Development secured a licence to import LNG into the country. The ERC has allowed the company to import 300,000 mt/year of LNG. Gulf Energy will supply the LNG to 19 small power projects within its group.
