Azerbaijani Officials Meet With European, US Companies Ahead of European Games

Azerbaijan is trying to capitalise on the Baku 2015 European Games and use the event to increase ties with international companies. While BP was saying that it completed planned maintenance at West Azeri platform, SOCAR met with European and American companies.

On Friday, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev discussed cooperation opportunities with Eldar Sætre, CEO of Norway’s Statoil. The two parties discussed deliveries of Azeri gas to European markets.

On Thursday, Abdullayev also met with Marcel Regnier, President of US-based ITRON Gas.

‘SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev spoke about successful cooperation with ITRON Gas which provides high-quality gas smart payment meters to “Azeri Gas” Production Union (PU) and measures taken towards the gas supply of the regions. Emphasizing the role of gas smart payment meters in curtailing the losses and resourceful consumption of gas, SOCAR President appreciated the role of ITRON Gas’ the company wrote in a note

Meanwhile, according to Reuters, UK-headquartered BP completed maintenance and resumed production at its West Azeri platform in the Caspian Sea.

Earlier this week, an Azerbaijani official told Natural Gas Europe that Baku will not export any natural gas to Russia in 2015.
