Azerbaijan - Turkey Gas Transit Agreement In Near Future

A senior representative of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has said that Azerbaijan said may complete gas transit talks with Turkey prior to the end of this month, with a view to signing a definitive agreement in October.

"We expect to complete talks with Turkey before Sept. 26,” said Vagif Aliyev.

The arrangement would allow gas from the Shah Deniz II field to flow to Europe, providing the EU based Nabucco gas pipeline project with a critical source of yet to be secured gas.

Current negotiations reportedly have Turkey acquiring 6 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year for internal use and transiting an additional 10 bcm to Europe via Nabucco.
