Australia's Senex energy completes Kato drilling

Senex Energy has completed the drilling of the Kato-1 coalbed methane (CBM) exploration well on the Don Juan CBM project in ATP 593P, Queensland.

Kato-1 has a total depth of 330 metres and was drilled to investigate the CBM potential of the Walloon coal measures in the north-west region of the Surat basin.

During coring of the Walloon core measures the company intersected 9.8 metres of net coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures, along with 7.6 metres of net gas bearing carbonaceous shale.

About 200 metres of core was collected and Senex said about 30 coal and carbonaceous shale core samples were being analysed for gas compistion, gas saturation and other attributes.

Senex holds a 45% stake in ATP 593P with fellow Australian company Bow Energy holding the remaining 55% interest.
