Australia says ready to supply extra LNG to EU

Australia is willing to export additional LNG to Europe should Russia decide to cut off gas supplies to the European countries, the country’s trade minister Dan Tehan said on January 27.

The minister stated that Australia was “ready to support our friends and allies in the current challenging and complex, geostrategic environment", Voice of America reported.

As tensions continue to escalate between the West and Russia over Ukraine, there is a risk over potential impacts on energy supply in the region.

Australia is one of the world's biggest LNG exporters. The country’s exports reached a record 80.9mn mt in 2021, up 3.7% year/year.
