Australia's Comet Cheered by Mahalo Well

The Mahalo Gas Project’s Mira 6/2 pilot well’s gas flow rates continue to rise and are approaching 1mn ft3/d (roughly 1 terajoule/d), confirming it as the best performing gas producer in Australia’s Central Queensland Mahalo Block, Comet Ridge said March 12.

Comet managing director Tor McCaul said coalbed methane (CBM) production from the Mira 6/2 well combination had just passed 840,000 ft3/d and was still rising.

“Production from this well continues to exceed our expectations, reducing the implied capital cost of developing the Mahalo Gas Project,” he said. Santos and Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) each have 30% interest in Mahalo, along with Comet’s 40% stake.

The Mahalo block lies approximately 240 kilometres west of the Port of Gladstone, where the APLNG terminal and Santos’ Gladstone LNG terminal are based -- and is proximal to pipeline connections.
