Australia Ready to Sell LNG to Pakistan

Australia is ready to sell LNG to Pakistan, Australian High Commissioner to Islamabad, Margaret Adamson said Monday.

“We also have plenty of clean coal and LNG to sell,” she said, while addressing at Pakistan Australia Business Forum in Islamabad, reported Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Pakistan has already been importing coal and iron ore from Australia.

The South Asian nation has been facing severe natural gas shortage which has affected country's economy. The government has been working on sourcing the fuel from various sources.

Recently, RT-Global Resources, a Rostec subsidiary, commenced work on the North-South gas pipeline in Pakistan. In October, Moscow and Islamabad signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a gas pipeline from Karachi to Lahore. Last December, Rostec announced that its subsidiary, RT Global Resources, would be building oil and LNG pipelines and terminals in Pakistan with total cost of about $3 billion.

Another Russian energy firm Gazprom also recently said that it is interested in supplying LNG to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Australia is increasing its focus on Asian LNG market as some of its large LNG projects are expected to come online in the next few years.
