Aussie east coast LNG exports up 10% in July

LNG exports from three projects on the Australian east coast reached 1.8mn tonnes in July, showing a 9.7% increase compared with the same period in the previous year, according to Gladstone Port Corp. data published on August 8. However, there was a decline of over 3% in exports when compared to June 2023.

Among the top destinations for these Australian LNG exports, China received the largest share with 1.09mn tonnes, indicating an increase from 876,307 tonnes in July of the previous year. South Korea imported 234,879 tonnes, which was higher than the 222,025 tonnes received in the same period last year. Japan imported 210,470 tonnes, up from 180,347 tonnes in the corresponding period last year.

The three projects responsible for these LNG exports from the Australian east coast are Australia Pacific LNG, Gladstone LNG, and Queensland Curtis LNG. In the year 2022, the combined LNG exports from these projects amounted to 22.64mn tonnes, which was slightly below the record high of 23.47mn tonnes achieved in 2021.
