Argentina Names New Energy Secretary

Argentina’s finance ministry announced December 28 the appointment of Gustavo Lopetegui as the country’s new energy secretary, replacing Javier Iguacel, who had resigned earlier in the day.

Lopetegui was previously an advisor to Argentine president Mauricio Macri and from December 2015 to September 2018 served as secretary of coordination of public policies in the cabinet office. He has also worked for the consulting firm McKinsey in Spain, the US, Brazil and Argentina.

Lopetegui is a certified public accountant and has extensive experience working in both the public and private sector. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Universidad Argentina de la Empresa and a master’s degree in business administration from Navarra University.

No details regarding Iguacel's resignation were released.
