Arctic LNG 2 to Buy GE Turbines

Russian gas independent Novatek said December 21 that its next LNG project, Arctic LNG 2 has agreed to buy turbo-machinery from Italy's Nuovo Pignone.

It follows a $2.5bn contract award to an Italian Saipem-led consortium two day earlier along with an initial agreement on financing with Italian export credit agency SACE. All agreements are subject to final investment on Arctic LNG 2.

The agreement is for supply of gas turbine compressors and gas turbine generators for all three liquefaction trains of Arctic LNG 2 project, each being 6.6mn mt/yr. Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said: “Our partnership with Nuovo Pignone extends back to 2013 as they supplied gas turbine compressors for the three liquefaction trains of our Yamal LNG project.” Nuovo Pignone is part of US firm Baker Hughes GE.
