Andalas, Pertamina Select First Gas-to-Power Project for Development

Andalas Energy and Power and Pertamina have selected their first joint gas to power project under the agreement signed to identify at least five stranded gas fields within Pertamina’s acreage in Riau, Jambi and South Sumatra provinces which are suitable for sub-100-MW gas-to-power development in the form of an independent power project (IPP). The unexploited gas discoveries in Riau, Jambi and South Sumatra total 5.1 trillion ft³.

The identified project is within the target area and founded on an existing conventional gas discovery that is close to infrastructure and power demand centres, Indonesia focused Andalas said November 4, adding “It is clear that further suitable developments exist from which to select the remaining four projects that are envisioned under the cooperation agreement.”

Pertamina and Andalas have been focussing their efforts towards identifying projects capable of monetising existing gas discoveries through in-situ power generation.

PLN E, the engineering subsidiary of Indonesia state owned electricity company, PLN, has been contracted to develop the conceptual design study for the power plant for the project, which is scheduled to take up to three months.

Indonesia is witnessing increasing demand for power and is seeking to increase electricity capacity by 35 GW by 2019. A lot of the focus has been on gas-fired projects.
