Allseas suspends pipe-laying on Nord Stream 2

Allseas, the Swiss-based offshore contractor specialising in pipelaying, heavy lift and subsea construction, has halted its activities related to the Nord Stream 2 gas natural gas pipeline.

"In anticipation of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Allseas has suspended its Nord Stream 2 pipelay activities," the company said in a press statement on its website dated Dec. 21.

"Allseas will proceed, consistent with the legislation’s wind down provision and expect guidance comprising of the necessary regulatory, technical and environmental clarifications from the relevant US authority."

US President Trump was expected on December 20 to sign off on sanctions approved by lawmakers December 17 on companies and governments working on Nord Stream 2 as Washington tries halt the completion of the $10.5bn pipeline, which would transport Russian gas under the Baltic Sea.
