Algerian Gas Exports Dropped 17% in 2014

Algeria's natural gas exports dropped 17 percent to 27.44 billion cubic metres (bcm) in 2014, news agency Reuters reported Tuesday citing data from country’s statistics department.

The department said the decline in exports was result of slide in output. Algeria’s energy output has been on a decline since 2006.

LNG sales abroad increased 18 percent to 17.8 bcm, according to the data.

Development of Algerian energy resources has been moving at a slow speed as foreign companies have been deterred due to country’s cumbersome bureaucracy and unattractive terms of contract, Reuters stated.

According to the news agency, in 2014, Algeria awarded only four of 31 oil and gas blocks on offer to foreign entities.
