Alberta Conventional Gas Reserves Down Slightly in 2017

Alberta’s remaining established reserves of conventional natural gas stood at some 24.4 trillion ft3 at the end of 2017, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) reported February 28, down from 26.9 trillion ft3 in 2016.

Production for the year (including unconventional gas) was an estimated 3.9 trillion ft3, indicating that reserves replacements and/or revisions partially offset annual production. Full reconciliation tables will be released later by the AER, while additional reports examining resources and reserves of unconventional natural gas are being prepared, and will be released later this year.

Initial in-place conventional gas resources were estimated by the AER at some 351 trillion ft3, while initial established reserves of conventional gas were 201.4 trillion ft3. Ultimate potential recoverable reserves of conventional gas have been estimated at 223 trillion ft3.
