Aker wins Feed work at India LNG terminal

Oslo-listed engineer Aker Solutions has signed a contract with fellow Norwegian LNG infrastructure developer Crown LNG for the front-end engineering and design (Feed) for the Kakinada LNG import terminal project offshore India, it said July 5.

The order includes an option for engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the LNG terminal, which will be confirmed upon the final investment decision expected by the end of 2022. The Feed is expected to start immediately, with delivery in 2022.

Aker Solutions’ scope includes technical development of the concrete foundation and topsides and the pipeline between the offshore regasification terminal and the onshore gas grid. As the main contractor, Aker Solutions will coordinate with subcontractors Siemens Energy and Wartsila Gas Solutions. As part of the Feed, Aker Solutions will also coordinate soil surveys and construction site development.

It is Crown LNG's customer, East LNG, that owns the company, Krishna Godavari LNG Terminal Private, which holds the licence for the terminal at Kakinada. Crown LNG has been selected as a partner to finance, build, lease and operate the LNG receiving terminal because it has developed a solution that can be operational 365 days/year.

The offshore LNG terminal will be built out in one phase, with an annual regasification capacity of 7.2mn mt/yr as soon as it is operational, the company told NGW last month.
