Afghanistan Should Set Up Sufficient Gas Storage Facilities

Economic experts have asked Afghanistan to set up sufficient number of gas reservoirs in order to store the natural gas procured from other countries especially Turkmenistan.

They have pointed out that once TAPI gas pipeline project is completed, load will increase and more storage facilities will be required to ensure a standardized supply and distribution process, Pakistan Observer reported.

Sufficient and quality reservoirs are needed to be built to store gas in view of its rising demand in the countries concerned, the experts said.

Earlier this month, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan inked a 30 year gas deal under the TAPI gas pipeline project. Based on this contract, following the completion of this project, Afghanistan will purchase 500 million cubic meters of gas in the first ten years, and one billion and 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually in the second and third ten years respectively.
