Adriatic LNG Provides Winter Peak-Shaving

Italy's ministry of economic development has chosen Adriatic LNG, the regasification terminal offshore Venice, to provide this coming winter's peak shaving service. It performed the same function last year as well.

The service is part of Italy's emergency plan, aimed at avoiding possible shortfalls during the thermal year 2018-19 and therefore guaranteeing the security of supplies to the national gas system.

The tender is to supply a single LNG cargo of 60,000 m³ to 70,000 m³, or about 42mn m³ of pipeline gas. It closes at 12.30 pm October 9; the LNG will have to be unloaded at the terminal in the second half of October 2018. The peak shaving is aimed at making gas available to Italian gas grid operator Snam during 1Q 2019 (stored in the form of LNG) in order to meet possible peaks in demand during wintertime.
