ADNOC L&S takes delivery of 2nd LNG-fuelled VLCC

ADNOC Logistics and Services (ADNOC L&S), a unit of UAE’s ADNOC, has recently taken delivery of its newbuild LNG-fuelled very large crude carrier (VLCC) named Habshan, the company said on July 17.

This vessel is the second of four dual-fuel engine VLCCs that can also run on LNG, which are scheduled for delivery this year. The move is in line with the company's smart growth strategy and commitment to environmental sustainability, ADNOC L&S said.

To support its green initiatives, ADNOC L&S has allocated approximately $2bn towards building more environmentally efficient vessels. The company said it has reduced the carbon intensity of its owned fleet by over 20% since 2018.

The first VLCC was delivered last month, and the third and fourth vessels are expected to arrive in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. All VLCCs are constructed by Hanwha Ocean, previously known as Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, at its Okpo Shipyard on Geoje Island, South Korea. These vessels are planned to operate in the spot market.

The newly delivered VLCC Habshan is custom-designed for long-haul voyages, enabling efficient crude oil shipments to customers worldwide. With a length of 336 m and a deadweight of 300,000 metric tons, it can carry approximately 2mn barrels of crude per voyage.
