Adnoc announces gas find off Abu Dhabi

State-run Adnoc February 3 announced the discovery of natural gas resources offshore Abu Dhabi.

Interim results from the first exploration well in Abu Dhabi’s Offshore Block 2 concession operated by Eni, indicate between 1.5 – 2 trillion ft3 of raw gas in place, it said.

A consortium led by Eni and Thai state-run PTTEP was awarded the exploration rights for Offshore Block 2 in 2019 as part of Adnoc’s debut competitive block bid round. The block covers an area of 4,033 km2 northwest of Abu Dhabi.

This find follows the announcement in December of the discovery of up to 1bn barrels of oil equivalent in Onshore Block 4 concession, operated by Inpex/Jodco.
