Active Rig Count Resumes Slide in US

After a brief pause last week, the active rig count in the US resumed its downward trajectory this week, with four more idled rigs, Baker Hughes said August 7 in its regular report.

All four were oil-directed: one in the Eagle Ford and three in the Permian. At August 7, 247 rigs were listed as active, down from 934 on August 9, 2019.

The count in Canada, meanwhile, continued in the opposite direction, with three rigs – two oil and one gas – added to the active list and one rig idled in the “Miscellaneous” category. At August 7, 47 rigs were active in Canada, down from 140 a year ago.
