Straatman to supply ship-to-shore link system for Petronas' 3rd FLNG

Straatman, in collaboration with Samsung Heavy Industries, will supply a ship-to-shore link system for Petronas' third floating LNG (FLNG) project offshore Sabah, Malaysia, it said on February 8.

Straatman's SafeCom ship-to-shore link system is set to play a role in facilitating communication between the FLNG facility and LNG carriers, ensuring efficient and secure operations.

Upon completion, the nearshore LNG plant will increase Petronas’ LNG production from floating LNG facilities from 2.7mn tonnes/year to 4.7mn tonnes/year. At present, the company operates two floating LNG facilities, the PFLNG Satu and PFLNG Dua, at the Kebabangan and Rotan offshore gas fields respectively.

Baker Hughes last year secured an order to supply two LM9000-driven compressor trains to the FLNG facility. The order was placed by Black & Veatch, a subcontractor to the JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries consortium.

The engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contract for the nearshore FLNG facility project was awarded to Japan's JGC and Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries in January of last year.
