Italy's Eni inks gas project deal in Libya
Italy’s Eni and the National Oil Corporation of Libya (NOC) have agreed to develop a gas project offshore Libya that will supply to the local market and to Europe, Eni said on January 28.
The $8bn Structures A&E project is the first major project in the country since early 2000. It consists of the development of two gas fields, namely Structures A and E, located in the contractual area D, offshore Libya. The combined gas production from the two structures will start in 2026 and reach a plateau of 750mn ft3/day.

Production will be ensured through two main platforms tied-in to the existing treatment facilities at the Mellitah Complex. The project also includes the construction of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at Mellitah.
Eni is the leading international gas producer in Libya, with a share of 80% of the national production. The company is looking to source more non-Russian gas in light of the Ukraine war. Eni last year signed an agreement to supply more LNG from its Egyptian upstream portfolio in partnership with the national government.
Earlier this month, Eni and Chevron announced a "significant" new gas discovery at the Nargis-1 exploration well located in Nargis offshore area concession in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt.
The Italian major last year said it is committed to developing the huge gas resources of Congo. Eni last November exported the first shipment of LNG produced from the Coral gas field, offshore Mozambique.
