Shale Gas to be One of Top Agendas on PM Modi's Visit to US

Shale gas exploration is expected to be one of the top agendas for discussion when India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the US later this month, Financial Express newspaper reported Friday citing government officials.

Export of US shale gas to India would also be a topic of discussion, officials privy to the development told the newspaper.

“There have been on going discussions with the US about the shale gas to meet country’s energy needs. We need to have a clarity on how to incentivise the companies to invest in the oil and gas exploration. There is a need to change the narrative from renewals to storage systems,” one of the officials added.

India has been talking to the US for collaborative efforts to exploit shale resources for past many years. However, on-ground developments are yet to be witnessed, Financial Express said.

On the other hand, Indian companies, both private as well as state owned, have bought stake in US shale projects.
