Ukraine’s PM Asks National Authorities to Pave the Way for GTS Tender

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk asked members of his government and Naftogaz Ukrainy to pave the way for a public tender to attract investors from the European Union and the United States to operate and modernise the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) and Ukrainian storage facilities. He wants the Ministry of Energy and Naftogaz to set the conditions for the tender by next week.

“It’s time to fulfill the law. We should attract the EU and the US to the modernization of the Ukrainian GTS in order to increase pumping, to ensure security of natural gas supply to the European Union,” Yatsenyuk commented on Friday

Yatsenyuk also reiterated Ukrainian opposition to the South Stream project.

“Ukraine jointly with the European Union will ensure the stable transit. We have all the technical capabilities as well as political will to let a joint venture company between Ukraine and the EU provide the energy security of Ukraine and the European Union, and to prevent the possibility of Russia’s blackmailing both Europe and Ukraine,” the Prime Minister stressed.
