NGW Magazine: South Pars Puts Pressure on Iran

While Qatar has been producing billions of dollars’ worth of LNG from North Field, life has been much quieter on the other side of the straits. Iran has to take action to maintain field pressure far into the future.

While Iran is getting ready to export 200mn m³/d of gas from the South Pars field, the reservoir pressure has dropped to the point that the liquids are separating out. The latecomer to the feast will need to invest in equipment to maintain pressure by 2023, if it is to adhere to its production plans.

South Pars is the largest discovered field of its kind in the world, a reservoir that extends into Qatar where it is known as the North Field. A third of the field is located in Iran’s waters.
