JGC Wins Woodfiber LNG FEED Contract

Japanese JGC Group and American KBR have been awarded contracts to provide front-end engineering and design (Feed) services for the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.

JGC’s American subsidiary JGC America and KBR will take up Feed development and an EPC proposal for the new 2.1mn mt/yr liquefaction plant and export facility. These two groups will conduct the Feed in parallel and will produce lump-sum turn-key proposals for an EPC contract. The value of the contracts was not disclosed.

The Woodfibre LNG project is a mid-scale natural gas liquefaction facility on a brownfield site on the shores of Howe Sound in the District of Squamish. The proposed facility will receive natural gas from a FortisBC natural gas pipeline and will be powered with electricity from BC Hydro.

Woodfibre LNG is proposing to build an LNG processing and export facility at the former Woodfibre Pulp Mill near Squamish. It is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver, and a subsidiary of Pacific Oil & Gas, which is part of the Singapore-based RGE group of companies.

In May, Woodfibre LNG signed a preliminary agreement with China’s Guangzhou Gas Group concerning potential LNG offtake of 1mn tn/yr of LNG for 25 years starting in 2020. The preliminary agreement includes an option on up to 10% of the equity of Woodfibre LNG.
