China Energy Engineering advances Uzbek CCGT

China Energy Engineering Group Co. on May 5 started installing the main body of the 1.5 GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant project in Syr Darya as the first steel structure was hoisted, State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), which supervises and administers Chinese state-owned assets and investments, said on May 16.

The project was contracted by the consortium of China Gezhouba Group Co. and Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., both subsidiaries of China Energy Engineering Group.

Located in Shirin county of the Syr Darya region, the power plant is about 150 km from Tashkent, capital city of Uzbekistan. Covering an area of 75 hectares, the project is the first IPP project and the largest power plant project in the country, SASAC said.

The project is scheduled to be put into operation at the end of 2023. Once operational, it is expected to provide more than 36mn kilowatt-hours/day of power to the local power grid.
