Publics.bg: Bulgarian Vice PМ to Head New Energy Security Council

Bulgaria’s Council of Ministers announced today the establishment of a new Energy Security Council which will be aimed at coordinating the national policies in the energy sector and determine the priorities of Sofia within the European Energy Union. Vice PM Tomislav Dontchev will be heading the new entity which will gather key ministries and, when needed, representatives of major employers.

“The point of the said Council’s establishment is to guarantee or, at least, set the premises for an integrated energy policy. All directly or indirectly involved institutions will be represented in it. I hope that with the creation and subsequent regular work of the council we will have all the guarantees that the government’s interior and exterior political positions will be coordinated adequately”, Vice PM Dontchev commented during the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The Energy Security Council will most likely have to tackle the protests of the large industrial power consumers against the planned higher renewable energy component in the electricity price they pay. The higher administrative component was meant to take force today, but the energy regulator postponed the adoption of the new electricity prices until July 31, in order to take into consideration the expected outcome of the government-industry talks.
